Attachment Therapy in Washington + Florida

With Tanya Kincaid

I work with people who understand their relationship patterns but still feel stuck in them.

You're always tracking your relationships.

Every shift. Every unspoken tension. Sometimes before the other person even realizes it — you're always tracking your relationships, anticipating shifts in connection before anything's even happened.

You understand your patterns. But no amount of analyzing has made your relationships feel easier.

It makes sense if you're tired.

It makes sense if part of you is wondering: why does it always feel like it's on me?

Do your relationships feel confusing or repetitive? Do you wonder if the problem is you or your partner?

Many people feel pulled between wanting closeness and feeling overwhelmed by it — like they're "too much," or not enough.

This often shows up as:

  • Repeating relationship cycles

  • Fear of being smothered or losing yourself

  • Difficulty trusting

  • People pleasing

  • Avoiding conflict

  • Feeling "too much"

  • Pulling away or disconnecting

  • Feeling reactive or overwhelmed

These are protective patterns, not personal flaws.

How Attachment Therapy With Me Works

These patterns aren't random. Different parts of you are trying to manage connection:

  • A part that wants closeness

  • A part that feels overwhelmed by it

  • A part that tries to keep things stable, or avoid conflict

So you can feel pulled in different directions: wanting connection and resisting it at the same time.

We don't just talk about your relationships.

We slow these patterns down so you can actually see what's happening, instead of getting pulled into the same cycle again. Then we go underneath the reaction itself. The part of you that's overwhelmed, bracing, pulling away, or trying to hold everything together.

Something starts to shift when you can stay with what's happening instead of immediately moving away from it.

You might notice yourself soften a little. React differently than you usually would. Or finally understand what's actually happening underneath the pattern.

That's where change starts. Not by forcing yourself to act differently, but by changing your relationship to what's happening inside of you. Then we work on helping those shifts hold outside of session.

Modalities I Use

Therapy with me is focused on both insight and real-time change as it's happening.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS): Helps identify attachment-related parts and unmet needs.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Builds values-based connection in relationships.

  • Depth Psychology: Explores the origin of relational patterns.

  • Somatic Therapy: Supports communication and conflict repair skills.

About Tanya Kincaid, LMHC

I work with relationship patterns through a parts-based lens, so you can understand why different reactions show up.

Sessions with me are direct, engaged, and highly attuned; I track patterns in real time so you can see how your system is working, and shift what's actually driving it.

Growing up, I spent a lot of time trying to make sense of the people around me. I was fascinated by people, families, and the ways different environments shape us.

Today, I work with many clients who grew up in complex environments such as family instability, substance use, rigid expectations, emotional unpredictability, or competing cultural values.

My role is helping you understand the patterns that once helped you adapt and decide which ones still belong in your life.
